From Projects to Products: My Journey of Building in Public

Update: I’ve decided to put @murphbuilds on hold. I found that the relentless need to stay visible on social media was diverting too much time away from my core mission of creating meaningful products. The cycle of constant engagement and audience building, while insightful, wasn’t as productive or fulfilling as I had hoped. By pressing pause on this, I can now refocus my energy on what truly matters - building impactful products that truly make a difference.

I have a confession. I’m not proud to say it, but it’s time to speak the truth.

I have been wasting away my time and skills building silly side projects.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve started hundreds of projects, and finished only a handful. Of that handful, I can’t say that I’m truly proud of any of them.

Now I’m not trying to be all doom and gloom here. Those that know me, know that’s not who I am. But it must be said, because, I am starting a new chapter in my life.

No More Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

My new chapter is a bold and ambitious move - I am setting out to make something more meaningful with the skills I have developed over the past decade. I’m taking all that I’ve learned from my previous projects, what worked and what didn’t, and applying that knowledge to create products that are built for success. I am no longer creating projects just to see if they will work or to see if I can find a market. I will be deliberate and methodical in my approach.

Products > Projects

No longer will I be building ‘projects’… I’ll be building ‘products’. The difference is subtle, but the rewards for that extra effort can be massive.

I have always dreamed of providing something to people that they find useful, something that they can rely on and appreciate. To create something meaningful, something that will make a difference in people’s lives - this is my ultimate goal. Creating products that serve a purpose, solve problems, and make life easier is what drives me.

Building in Public

To help me reach this goal, I am taking a new approach. Instead of working in the shadows and alone, I will be building in public. This means that anyone can follow along as I develop my products from concept to launch. It’s not just about reaching a result - it’s about the journey there too.

You’ll find me posting daily on Twitter (@murphbuilds), and occasionally providing updates to this blog.

I’ll be here for all the highs and lows along the way; every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Plus, having a supportive community around me helps encourage me to stay on track with my goals and push past any roadblocks that come up during development.
